The Jan Shatabdi Express is a more affordable variety of the Shatabdi Express, which has both AC and non-AC accommodation. The word 'Jan' refers to common people. It is similar to Shatabdi Express in terms of fare and precedence but has all the classes such as EC (Executive Chair car), CC (AC chair car) and 2S (second seater) while Shatabdi do not have the 2S coaches. The fare does not include food charge, but it has the on board catering service from where food can be bought.
All the Jan Shatabdi Express trains are of superfast category except 15125/15126 Manduadih - Patna Jan Shatabdi Express which is an express train as its average speed is less than 55 km/h.
