The 12081/12082 Kannur Jan Shatabdi Express is a Jan Shatabdi Express train belonging to Indian Railways that runs between Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur in Kerala state of India. It is the fastest express train between these two cities running via Kottayam.
History
The train commenced its operation in 2011 . Initially it ran between Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode[1][2], but owing to public demand it was extended to Kannur[3] in 2013. The train is one among the popular commuter trains in Kerala state along with its counterpart, the 12075/76 Calicut Jan Shatabdi Express, which runs via Alappuzha.
Route
Kannur jan shadabdi express covers the distance of 500 km between Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur in about 9 hours, making it the second fastest train between the two cities after the Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express. It has 12 halts and the stoppages are at Thalassery , Vatakara , Kozhikode , Tirur , Shoranur Junction , Thrissur , Ernakulam Town , Kottayam , Chengannur , Mavelikkara , Kayamkulam Jn and Kollam Junction .

As the route is fully electrified. It is hauled by WAP7 from Royapuram electric loco shed or WAP4 from Erode electric loco shed
Coach composition
The train has 18 coaches of which 15 are second class seating coaches(including 2 SLRs)[4] and 3 are AC Chair car coaches. Being one of the most popular trains in Kerala advance reservation is necessary especially during the weekends.
Frequency
Train number 12081 from Kannur runs on Mondays,Tuesdays,Thursdays,Fridays and Saturdays . While Train number 12082 From Thiruvananthapuram Central runs on Sundays,Mondays,Wednesdays,Thursdays and Fridays.
