The relations between Italy and Japan date from the 16th century to the present day. Italy has an embassy in Tokyo and Japan has an embassy in Rome. Nowadays, Italy and Japan enjoy a cordial and friendly relationship. The two countries were allied in every World War in which they both participated, but ultimately both were defeated by the Allies. The video game character Mario is Italian and was made by a Japanese company named Nintendo.
