Iqra University (Sindhi: اقرا يونيورسٽي) is a private university primarily located in the Defence residential area of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.[1] It has additional campuses in other parts of the city as well as in Islamabad. Iqra University was ranked as the top business school in Pakistan by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in the rankings announced in 2016.[2]
Founded as Asian Management Institute (AMI) in 1998 by a group of Karachi-based industrialists, the university was renamed as "Iqra University" after granted university status in 2002 by HEC. The university offers undergraduate, post-graduate, and doctoral studies programmes in engineering, film studies, management sciences, administration, and related social and natural sciences disciplines.[3] In 2015, Iqra University inaugurated its North Campus (named Iqra University North Campus[4]).
It is one of the notable private institution of higher learning and ranked among the top-ten institution for "business" by the HEC in 2012.[5] In addition, the university is the largest employer of doctorate holders as faculty.[6] Also, the university has the largest research publication output of other higher learning institutions of the country.[7][8][9][10][11]
Management
Founded by Pakistani businessman Hunaid H. Lakhani, who currently serves as the chairman. The chancellor is Mrs. Erum Asad and the vice chancellor is Prof. Dr. Wasim Qazi. Registrar is Dr. Irfan Hameed.

Rankings
Iqra University was ranked at no. 10 in Business as per Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) rankings 2012.[12] According to the HEC 2015 ranking, Iqra University was in the first position in Pakistan in the Business category.
Latest figures from ISI Thompson shown that IQRA University has published more research papers than the other top business schools of Pakistan.[7][8][9][10][11] In 2011, Iqra University was ranked as the no. 1 among all private institutions. [7]
In a meeting held on July 13, 2012, NCEAC-HEC (National Computing Education Accreditation Council of Higher Education Commission) has granted accreditation to the Computer Science Program of Iqra University for the batches graduating in the academic years 2008-12, 2009–13 and 2010-14. NCEAC-HEC also evaluated the quality standard of the said program and placed it into the top most ranking (W-Category).[13]
