Around the movie

The director A.Jaganadhan (B.A.) (26 November 1935, Tirupur - 7 October 2012, Coimbatore) started off as an assistant to T. Prakash Rao (already in MGR 's PADAGOTTI, 1964) and later worked under Pa.Neelakandhan (from 1967, with MGR 's KAAVALKAARAN) and for 12 films, most of them starring MGR.

He made his directorial debut through MANI PAYAL, in 1973.

It was MGR who inaugurated the first show of MANI PAYAL at Chennai's then Midland theatre.

Two years later, it was the MGR film IDHAYAKKANI (under the famous Sathiya Movies production, the sixth and the last one of the series, with MGR) that turned to be the biggest break of his career.

The first ones were, (under the Sathiya Movies production) : (DHEIVA THAAI on 18 July 1964), (NAAN AANAIYTTAL on 4 February 1966), (KAAVALKAARAN on 7 September 1967), (KANNAN EN KADHALAN on 25 April 1968), (RICKSHAWKARAN on 29 May 1971) and well - heard (IDHAYAKKANI on 22 August 1975).

The scenes of fight of this MGR's movie were directed by the veteran stunt master N. Shankar[12]

It was for the great classic singer, "Isaimani" Sirkazhi Govindarajan, the last song of a soundtrack for MGR's movie.

The film is known for political dialogues and songs.

In 2009 for the composition of the soundtrack of the movie of the Tamil star, the actor Vijayakanth, MARIYADHAI, the music director Vijay Antony remixed the title "Inbame Undhan Per".

This piece was interpreted by the couple Udit Narayan and Mahathi accompanied with Puram.

The actor Chanmugham Sundharam[13] who plays in the last MGR, MADHURAIYAI MEETTA SUNDHARAPANDIYAN, is present also in IDHAYAKKANI.
