Vijay Antony is an Indian music composer, playback singer, actor, film editor, lyricist, sound engineer and producer working in the Tamil, Telugu and Kannada film industries. He made his debut as music director in 2005 and as a lead actor in 2012. He is the first Indian to win the 2009 Cannes Golden Lion for the "Naaka Mukka" advertising film in the Best Music category. The song propelled his fame and was played at the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

Early life

Vijay Antony was born in Nagercoil. His father died when he was 7 years old and his sister was 5.[1] He did his schooling at Campion Anglo Indian school.He graduated at Loyola college of arts and science They pushed into difficult days and his mother took up a government job to educate the children and support the family. He is the great-grandson of Samuel Vedanayagam Pillai (1826–1889), also known as Mayavaram Vedanayagam Pillai, an Indian civil servant who is remembered for the authorship of Prathapa Mudaliar Charithram, recognized as the first modern Tamil novel.

Career

Antony made his acting debut in the lead role in the thriller Naan (2012). The film received mostly positive reviews from critics.[2] His next venture as an actor and music director was Salim (2014), in which he portrayed the same character from Naan;[3] the films were sleeper hits.[4] In his next release, the romantic comedy India Pakistan (2015), he starred but did not compose the music.[4] He acted in Pichaikkaran (2016), collaborating with his Dishyum director Sasi.[5] It is an emotional movie and was released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Saithan (2016) was a psychological thriller directed by debutant Pradeep Krishnamurthy.

He appeared in the 2017 film Yaman directed by Jeeva Shankar. Produced by A. Subaskaran under the banner Lyca Productions, it starred Miya and Thiagarajan in lead roles. The film was released on 24 February 2017. His next film was Annadurai, in which he played a dual role for third time. This movie was bankrolled by Sarathkumar and Radhika Sarathkumar. In April 2017, he signed to Kaali, directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi.[6] Kaali was filmed before Annadurai.[7]
