Hell Is Real was a soccer match between Ohio's two professional soccer clubs: Columbus Crew SC of Major League Soccer and FC Cincinnati of the United Soccer League.

Background

The Hell is Real match[1] occurred when Ohio's two professional soccer teams were drawn together in the fourth round of the US Open Cup in 2017.[2][3] The name came from a Christian-themed billboard on Interstate 71, the highway between Columbus and Cincinnati.[2]

Post-match

FC Cincinnati advanced to defeat Major League Soccer (MLS) team Chicago Fire on penalties following a scoreless draw in the round of 16,[4] and defeated North American Soccer League team Miami FC in a quarterfinal.[5] Cincinnati was eliminated in extra time by the New York Red Bulls in the semifinals (2-3).[6]
