Hanzala Shaheed Malik is a Scottish Labour Party politician. He was a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Glasgow electoral region between 2011-2016.[1]
He was also a Glasgow City Councillor, for the Hillhead ward.[2]
Hanzala Malik was born in Glasgow and was a Glasgow City Councillor from 1995 to 2012. Malik was elected as a Labour MSP for City of Glasgow Constituency in May 2011. Malik is mixed-race; his father was born in Pakistan and his mother was born in Scotland. He has been married for over thirty years and has two children and two grandchildren.
Malik holds a BSc in Computing with Business Administration from the University of Paisley. He has worked in both the private and public sector, including serving as a special police constable and member of the Territorial Army. As a Glasgow Councillor, Mr Malik was a member on the council's key committees, including Education, Development and Regeneration, Finance, Housing, Licensing, Policy and Resources.
Malik was re-elected as a Glasgow City Councillor in May 2017.
