Gandikota Rahasyam (English: Secret of Gandikota) is a 1969 Telugu folklore film, produced by D. V. S. Raju under the DVS Productions banner[2] and directed by B. Vittalacharya.[3] It stars N. T. Rama Rao, Jayalalitha in the lead roles,[4] with music composed by T. V. Raju.[5][6] The film was dubbed in Hindi as Baghavat.[7]
Plot
Once upon on time, there was a kingdom by name, Gandikota, its prince was Jayanth (N. T. Rama Rao), who is the heir apparent. Jayanth's cousin Pratapa Simha (Rajanala) wants to grab the kingdom, that's why he spoils Jayanth by habituating him to vices. Rajamata Hymavathi Devi (Hemalatha) wants to make the crowning ceremony of Jayanth immediately so that he could realize his responsibilities. Pratap wants to provoke the public against Jayanth, for that he charges additional taxes on them for the crowning ceremony. But Raja (again N. T. Rama Rao), a village youth, refuses this and Pratap names him as a rebel. Raja along with his lover Radha (Jayalalitha) and Radha's brother Vajralu (Rajababu) in different attires try to educate people regarding the atrocities of Pratap. Soldiers attack them and Raja and Radha get separated. After a strive, Raja reaches the fort where Jayanth is surprised to see the resemblance between them. Raja clarifies everything and makes him understand their pain. Jayanth promises with tears that from today onward, he will take care of his kingdom and welfare of the people. After that, they became good friends, Jayanth invites Raja for the crowning ceremony, that night, Pratap poisons Jayanth and Mahamantri (Mikkilineni) arranges treatment secretly. If Jayanth did not reach the function till sunrise, the kingdom goes into the hands of Pratap. So, Mahamantri requests Raja to take up the position of Jayanth till he recovers, Raja accepts his request, makes the crowning and makes a lot of changes in the constitution for the welfare of the public. But Raja's situation becomes delicate in the palace because of his acquaintance with Jayanth’s wife Lalitha Devi (Devika), for protecting her chastity. Now Pratap suspects Jayanth's behaviour and character where he gets a suspicion that some secret is dragging behind. Once he follows Mahamantri, finds out Jayanth and he shifts him to a mysterious place. After that, he puts the blame on Raja as the murderer of Jayanth. Raja somehow escapes from him, with the help of Radha and Vajralu he rescues Jayanth and stamps out Pratap. Finally, Jayanth appreciates Raja's changes in the constitution and asks him to stay along with him by making him his Chief Commander.
