Frankie Drake Mysteries is a Canadian television drama series, which premiered on CBC Television in the 2017–18 television season.[2] The series premiered on November 6, 2017. On April 5, 2018 the show was renewed for a second season of ten episodes.
Background
Lauren Lee Smith portrays the fictional Frankie Drake, the first female private detective in 1920s Toronto, with Chantel Riley as her crime solving partner Trudy.[2][3]

Production
The series was created by Carol Hay and Michelle Ricci; both women also served as writers and producers and previously worked on Murdoch Mysteries together.[4][5] It is produced by Shaftesbury Films.[6]
Broadcast
Ovation will season one in June 2109, with plans to air season two as well, at a future date. The show has also been picked up in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.[7]
DVDs
The first season was released in Canada on DVD May 8, 2018. It was released on both DVD and Blu-ray (Region B locked) in the United Kingdom one day later. An Australian DVD release was released on June 27, 2018.
Reception
The series has received generally positive reviews since its release.[8] John Doyle of The Globe and Mail remarked "it's a hoot and as silly as all get-out," and concluded that "thanks to its charm and the frocks, skirts, suits and, well, the gorgeous furniture, it's frightfully good entertainment."[9] Johanna Schneller of the Toronto Star wrote that "the messaging in CBC series sometimes hits you over the head, but it's fun to watch women run their own show."[5]
