History

Genius Kitchen was formerly known as Food.com[1] (and originally RecipeZaar), which was created in 1999 outside of Seattle, Washington by two ex-Microsoft technologists. What started as an idea to connect home cooks from all over the world has grown into a daily cooking community, featuring 500,000+ user-generated recipes, 125,000+ photos, millions of reviews and tweaks, and 100+ hours of entertainment and food content.

Genius Kitchen is headquartered in New York and is part of the Discovery Inc. portfolio, which also owns and operates brands such as Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, American Heroes Channel, Food Network, Cooking Channel, HGTV, Travel Channel, DIY Network, and Great American Country. These brands collectively reach more than 170 million consumers each month across all device types. The Scripps Networks Interactive headquarters is in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Genius Kitchen is no longer accessible from countries across the EU including the UK, Spain, Italy and others. This was caused by European Union privacy rules known as GDPR. GDPR introduced specific privacy requirements for websites based worldwide. Users however have found methods to access Genius Kitchen in the European Union.[2]
