Dexter Gore Jr. (born September 6, 1993), better known by his stage name Famous Dex, is an American rapper. He is best known for his songs "Pick It Up" and "Japan", which peaked at number 54 and 28 respectively on the Billboard Hot 100.[2]

Early life

Dexter Gore Jr. was born on September 6, 1993 in Chicago and was raised on the South Side of the city.[3][4] He decided to pursue music after the death of his mother in September 2014.[1]

Career

In 2015, he self-released his first mixtape, Never Seen It Coming.[5] Later in 2015, he released his second mixtape Dexter's Laboratory.[6]

In early 2016, Famous Dex released his third and fourth mixtapes, Drippy[7] and #OhhMannGoddDamn.[8][9] In the summer of 2016, Dex announced that he was officially signed to Rich the Kid's label, Rich Forever Music.[10][11] Shortly thereafter, Dex and Rich released their collaborative effort, Rich Forever.[12] This was followed by 2 sequels, with the third exclusively featuring then Rich Forever newcomer New York rapper Jay Critch. A fourth Rich Forever mixtape is pending release following tensions between Rich the Kid and his label, 300 Entertainment.

In March 2017 Dex announced the title of his debut album, Dex Meets Dexter. The album was released on April 6, 2018.[13]

In October 2017, he released "Pick It Up" featuring ASAP Rocky as the first single from the album, which peaked at number 54 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming his first song to chart.[14] The album's second single "Japan" was released on March 16, 2018.[15] On March 30, 2018, he released the single "Light" featuring Drax Project.[16]

The single "Nervous" which features Lil Baby, Jay Critch, and Rich The Kid was released on September 21, 2018.[17]
