Royce Rodriguez Davison (born September 19, 1996), better known by his stage name Ugly God, is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer. Ugly God is best known for his platinum hit 2016 single, "Water." On June 13, 2017, Ugly God was named as one of the ten members of XXL's 2017 Freshman Class where he performed his Freshman Freestyle alongside fellow rappers Playboi Carti, MadeinTYO, and the late XXXTentacion respectively. As of October 15, 2018, the freestyle has garnered over 32 million views.[4]

Early life

Royce Rodriguez Davison was born the son of an African-American father and an Afro-Dominican immigrant mother in Indianapolis, where he would only stay for a few months until moving to Cleveland, Ohio. After two years of living there, he moved to Houston where he would spend the remainder of his youth.[3] Ugly God started rapping while he was enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi where he wanted to become a computer engineer before dropping out.[5]

Career

From 7th to 10th grade, he used the handle 'Pussy Bacon'.[6] He changed his name to the infamous 'Ugly God' because of social reasons and his parents.[7] He also states that he made the name up on the spot. Creating the phrase 'I'm Real Ugly' which evolved into 'Ugly God.'

On March 16, 2016, he released his single titled "Water" on his SoundCloud account, before being released for digital download as a single on November 19, 2016, by Asylum Records.[8] The song debuted at number 100 on the Billboard Hot 100, and later reached number 80 on the chart.[9][10]

On August 4, 2017, Ugly God released his mixtape titled The Booty Tape.[11] It charted at no. 27 on the Billboard 200.[12]

He was featured on the song "Boom!" by Lil Yachty, featured on his album Lil Boat 2, which was released on March 9, 2018.

Ugly Gold released the EP Just a Lil Something Before the Album ahead of his upcoming debut album, Bumps & Bruises.[13]
