The Fairfield Transportation Center or FTC is a bus station is Fairfield, California, United States.[1][2] The facility serves as a bus hub for transportation on local, commuter, and long-distance bus services. There are plans to expand the center.[3] Casual carpooling is also practiced here.[4]

Transit

The hub is served by Fairfield and Suisun Transit (FAST) bus service predominantly. This includes local routes 1, 3, 5, and 7. School service line 7T also stops here. Solano Express intercity commuter routes also stop here. These include the 20 which connects to Vacaville Transportation Center, the 30 that travels to Davis and downtown Sacramento, the 40 to Walnut Creek BART station, and 90 to El Cerrito del Norte BART station.[5] The Rio Vista Delta Breeze operates their 50 bus line here that connects to the towns of Rio Vista and Isleton. SolTrans runs line 85 to Vallejo Station. Lastly Napa VINE runs express bus route 21 to Napa.

History

The center was designed to "instill civic pride" and provide transit alternatives for the surrounding community.[6] Parking is in high demand here and some people park in nearby shopping centers risking being towed. In 2012 the city of Fairfield planned on expanding the site by adding 1,000 more parking spaces and moving the vanpooling to a site 1/3 miles away.[7] In 2015 parking fees were debated to mitigate overcrowding at the park and ride lot.[8] There was even a petition by citizens to protested the US$50 a month parking fees with $5 daily parking; the city council was split on the decision.[9][10] There is electric vehicle charging here provided by Tesla.[11] In 2016 it was reported that a colorful glass styled 1,200 space parking garage was to be added by 2019.[12] The center may be the site of a future BART station or a site near the Solano Town Center may be used. Also in 2016 the city of Vacaville contemplated spending $16,557 $US on installing security cameras.[13] The city has struggled to find land that the public is approving of as fit for development of additional parking.[14]
