Elliott Heads is a town in the Bundaberg region of Queensland, Australia. The town is located at the mouth of the Elliott River, 359 kilometres (223 mi) north of the state capital, Brisbane. At the 2016 census, Elliott Heads had a population of 846.[1] Elliott Heads is surrounded by small crop and sugarcane farms and is a popular recreation area, offering both surf and stillwater areas for swimming, fishing, sailboarding, jet skiing, stand-up paddleboarding and other water activities.[2] The Elliott Heads Bowls Club offers bowling greens, pokies, meals and drinks.[3] There is a popular caravan park next to the surf beach with amenities.[4] The local Surf Life Saving Club is located near the surf beach. The Driftwood Café serves food and drink, and is located next to the mouth of the river. There is also a general store which sells food and other items. Elliott Heads has a single school, Elliott Heads State School (official website), which teaches from prep (the first year of schooling) to grade 6.[5]

History

Elliott Heads Post Office opened by January 1952 and closed in 1986.[6]

The original Elliott Heads Kiosk, a small café located on the esplanade next to the Elliott River mouth, closed down on July 15, 2014 and the Driftwood café opened nearby on September 4, 2014.[7][8]

Airy Park State School, the precursor to Elliott Heads State School, was built on the 16th of January, 1913.[9] The name of the school was changed to Elliott Heads State School on the 23rd March, 1967.[10]

The Elliott Heads Bowls Club was opened on the 12th June,1976.[3]
