East Hartford High School is the largest public high school of the East Hartford, Connecticut Public Schools. East Hartford High Schools shares its campus and many of its programs with the Connecticut International Baccalaureate Academy (CIBA), an honors college-preparatory high school for grades 9–12. East Hartford also runs Synergy and Woodland, alternative high schools that provide support to students who need a smaller school environment. East Hartford High has the most diverse student population in Connecticut with students representing virtually all ethnic and cultural backgrounds found in Connecticut. East Hartford is a suburban community with a student population that is roughly 41% people of color including Africans, African Americans, Caribbeans and peoples of Latin American ancestry. The school is also 16% white, 33% Latin American and 10% Asian and Central Asian. The total enrollment of East Hartford High School is roughly 1,750 students. CIBA, which shares the campus, sports, activities and some academics, adds another 300 bringing the population to over 2,050. East Hartford High School/CIBA is a Class LL school in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference and one of the largest schools in Connecticut.
History
East Hartford High School has undergone many changes since its beginnings in 1886. From its founding until 1962 East Hartford High was housed in its original building which is now the town's Parks and Recreation building. From 1962 until 1985 it was one of two high schools in East Hartford, with the other being George J. Penney High School. The two schools merged in 1985 and have since been known as East Hartford High. While now located on Forbes Street in East Hartford in the former Penney High School building, East Hartford High School was once located on Burnside Avenue, at what is now the home of East Hartford Middle School. East Hartford High School's school colors were once blue and white, but took on Penney High School's black and gold colors after the merger. Their mascot is the hornet is named for the most famous of Pratt and Whitney's engines manufactured at the airplane engine manufacturers primary facility in East Hartford. Though the mascot is historically a plane engine, the school uses an actual hornet as its mascot. East Hartford's rival is Manchester High School (Connecticut) which is a similarly diverse school in a region where many communities are more affluent and less diverse. Thus, Manchester is a friendly rival.

- John B. Larson, current Chairman of the Democratic Caucus of the United States House of Representatives, graduated in the class of 1967.[1]

Graduation requirements
Students attending East Hartford High School must select a minimum of 6 credits each year.
A minimum of 22 credits is required for high school graduation, including the successful completion of 4 credits in English, 3 credits in Mathematics, 3 credits in Social Studies (1 credit must be U.S. History; a .5 credit Civics class is required), 2 credits in Science, 2 credits (4 years) in Wellness Education, and 1 credit in Arts/Vocational Education (courses are available in Business Department, Consumer and Family Science, Technology Education, Art, Music, & Vocational Education).
Completion of Grade 10 "Foundation of American History" does not count toward the one-credit requirement of U. S. History for graduation. As of the 2010–11 school year, all incoming freshmen and future students must also complete 30 hours of community service to graduate.
