Cliffoney, officially Cliffony (Irish: Cliafuine (Cliathmhuine), meaning "hurdled thicket"),[2] is a village in north County Sligo, Ireland. It lies on the N15 national route at its junction with the R279). It is only one kilometre away from Mullaghmore which is popular with surfers.

Amenities

There one school in the village, a Roman Catholic church, and church hall, (the local Roman Catholic priest is Fr. Christy McHugh, who has replaced the Very Rev Cyril Haran in recent years.[3]) post office, beauty salon, Harrison's Bar and restaurant, O, Donnell's bar, an electrician, and others. There is one shop in the village, Gala, which underwent a major refurbishment in September 2017. It will feature a chipper in the near future. The old Garda station in the village was handed over to the Cliffoney Development Group by Minister Brian Hayes on July 27th, 2014. Nothing has been done with the station since.

The post office faced threat of closure; however, in August 2018 it was announced that it would remain open for a further three years while 159 other post offices would shut down nationwide.[4][5][6]
