Chyhyryn Raion (Ukrainian: Чигири́нський райо́н) is a raion (district) of Cherkasy Oblast, central Ukraine. Its administrative centre is located at the town of Chyhyryn. Population: 26,458 (2017 est.)[1]
During the Ukrainian War of Independence the region was proclaimed the "Kholodny Republic" (led by local Vasyl Chuchupak[2]) which strived for Ukrainian independence from the Soviet Union.[2][3] The Kholodny Republic lasted from 1919 to 1922.[3]
