The China General Chamber of Commerce - USA (CGCC; Chinese: 美国中国总商会) is a nonprofit organization representing Chinese enterprises in the United States. Its mission is " to create value, generate economic growth and enhance cooperation between US and Chinese business communities."[1] CGCC’s extensive membership includes 1,500+ companies from both China and the United States, 54 of which are ranked as Fortune 500 companies.[2]

China General Chamber of Commerce – USA has six regional chapters across the U.S., located in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco and Washington D.C. [3] Each regional chapter has its own Chairman as well as represents Chinese enterprises within the states that are included within the regional chapter. [3]

General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, Xi Jinping, has previously expressed his gratitude towards the China General Chamber of Commerce-USA, referring to the organization in a 2015 speech, as one of the various organizations that “have made China-U.S. relations flourish.”[4]

In 2017, CGCC's member companies have invested more than $120 billion dollars in the US and have employed more than 200,000 people.[5]

Regional Chapters

CGCC has six regional chapters in the U.S.

CGCC-Chicago: represents Chinese enterprises in nine states in the US Midwest - Illinois, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin – and Represents around 200 Chinese companies. From 2000 to 2015, Chinese companies have invested $12.8 billion in those nine states creating 284000 local jobs.[6] Its chairman is Ni Pin, President of Wanxiang America Inc.[3]

CGCC-Houston: represents Chinese enterprises in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Oklahoma. Its chairman is Li Shaolin, President of PetroChina International (USA) Inc.[3]

CGCC-Los Angeles: represents Chinese enterprises in Arizona, Southern California, Hawaii, New Mexico, and Pacific Island. Its chairman is Zhang Xuming, President of AVIC International (USA).[3]

CGCC-New York: represents Chinese enterprises in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Its chairman is Xu Chen, President and CEO of Bank of China USA [3]

CGCC-San Francisco: represents Chinese enterprises in Alaska, Northern California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. Its chairman is Wang Yong, President of Hua Hong International (Americas) Inc. [3]

CGCC-Washington D.C.: represents Chinese enterprises in Washington D.C., Delaware, Idaho, Kentucky, Maryland, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Its chairman is Han Zhuo, President of China Telecom America Inc.[7]

CGCC Events

CGCC hosts and co-hosts events focusing on Chinese-U.S. Business relationships. Every fall/early winter, CGCC hosts the CGCC Annual Gala, where high ranked government officials, and leaders of major Chinese businesses are honored for their work in promoting China-U.S. Business relations.[8] CGCC regional chapters also host their own events for the employees of its member companies. CGCC's events events "range from keynote speeches, casual breakfast and luncheon programs, to sports outings." [9] Past attendees to CGCC's events included: Wang Yang, Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China,[10][11][12] Michael Bloomberg, Former Mayor of New York City and Founder of Bloomberg L.P.,[13][14] Wilbur Ross, U.S. Secretary of Commerce,[15] Henry Kissinger, Former U.S. Secretary of State,[16] Cui Tiankai, Chinese Ambassador to the United States,[17] Stephen Schwarzman, Blackstone Group Chairman and CEO,[18] Zhu Hong, Minister for Commercial Affairs at the Chinese Embassy to the United States,[19] Gary Locke, Former U.S. Ambassador to China.[20]

CGCC Foundation

The CGCC Foundation is an IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization affiliated with the China General Chamber of Commerce. The foundation is dedicated "to fulfilling social responsibilities, giving back to local communities and enhancing mutual understanding between the people of China and the United States."[21] For the past four years, CGCC and CGCC Foundation have jointly published Annual Business Survey Reports, focusing on surveyed information from Chinese enterprises in America.[22][23]
