Child Marriage in Mauritania. In 2017 in Mauritania, 37% of girls are married off before the 18 years old. 14% are married before they turn 15.[1] Mauritania is the 19th highest nation in the world for child marriage.
A third of women in Mauritania marry early.[2]

Minimum age of marriage
The personal status code sets the minimum age of marriage at 18 years. However, since consensual sex outside of marriage is illegal, a legal guardian can ask local authorities to permit a girl younger than 18 to marry.[1]
