Chiara Ferragni (Italian pronunciation: [ˈkjaːra ferˈraɲɲi]; born 7 May 1987) is an Italian fashion businessperson. She is an influencer who has collaborated with fashion and beauty brands such as Tod's and Pantene[1][2] via her blog The Blonde Salad.[3] In September 2017, Ferragni was ranked first in the Forbes list of the most powerful fashion influencers.[4]

Early life and education

Chiara Ferragni was born on 7 May 1987 in Cremona to Marco Ferragni, a Lombard dentist,[5] and Marina Di Guardo, a writer born in North Italy of Sicilian origin.[6]

Career

Ferragni started her fashion blog in October 2009.[7] In March 2011, New York introduced her as "One of the biggest breakout street-style stars of the year".[8] In December 2011, Ferragni was profiled as the Blogger Of The Moment in Teen Vogue, while still a law student at Bocconi University .[9] She has not obtained her University degree.[10] By that time Ferragni's blog had reached more than one million unique visitors and 12 million views per month.[7] By 2013, Ferragni had won various blogger of the year recognitions.[7] In December 2013, she published an Italian language eBook, under The Blonde Salad.[11]

Ferragni modelled for Guess in a November 2013 shoot that was subsequently marketed as an ad campaign.[12] In December 2013 she collaborated with Steve Madden to design a 9-shoe collection for Spring 2014.[13]

Her television credits include the Italian TRL Awards as a presenter, and a guest appearance on the Italian variety show Chiambretti Night.[7] Ferragni walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in conjunction with the premiere of We Have a Pope (then titled Habemus Papam).[7] She also appeared on Project Runway as a guest judge during season 13 in August 2014.[14]

Her business ventures grossed about $8 million (mostly from her Chiara Ferragni Collection footwear) in 2014.[15] In January 2015, Ferragni's blog and shoe line, Chiara Ferragni Collection, became a case study at Harvard Business School.[16] In March, Ferragni was selected for the cover of the April 2015 Vogue España, making her the first fashion blogger to appear on any Vogue cover.[17] Since then she has appeared on over 50 fashion magazines covers. Pantene in January 2016 announced Ferragni as its new global ambassador.[18] Mattel Inc. created in September 2016 a Barbie version of Chiara Ferragni, one wearing a white T-shirt, black leather jacket, jeans and Chiara Ferragni Collection shoes and the other wearing a Chanel total look.[19]

As of 31 July 2017, Ferragni had 10 million followers on Instagram. Because of her broad following, she was able to earn about $12,000 for a sponsored post to Instagram.[20]

In 2017, Ferragni was chosen to design costumes for the 4th edition of intimissimi on ice.[21][22] On 26 July 2017, Ferragni opened her first Chiara Ferragni Collection store in Milan.[23] In May 2018, Footwear News named Ferragni one of "the most influential moms in the fashion industry.[24]

Awards and honors

On 7 September 2014, she won a Bloglovin' Award for the third consecutive year for her blog.[25] Her blog was named the Best Personal Style blog.[26]

Since 2013 she has been listed in Business of Fashion 500 most influential fashion people.[27] In 2015, Ferragni won the Bloglovin' Award Blogger of the Year.[28] In 2015 Ferragni was listed in the Forbes 30 Under 30.[29]

Personal life

Chiara got engaged to Italian rapper and producer Federico Lucia, known as Fedez, on May 6, 2017, during his concert in Verona; the concert and proposal were broadcast live on the Italian radio and TV channel RTL 102.5.[30][31] The wedding took place in Noto, Sicily on September 1, 2018.[32] She and Fedez have one son together, Leone (born March 19, 2018).[33] They live in Milan.[34]
