IHS Markit Ltd[5] is a London-based global information provider [6] that was formed in 2016 when IHS Inc. and Markit Ltd. merged.[7][8]

History

The company, which is followed by The Wall Street Journal.[9] has grown by acquiring companies of information and expert industry, many dating back to the late 1700s and 1800s.

In 2016 Englewood, CO-based IHS and London-based Markit merged.

IHS

Information Handling Services (IHS)[10] "was founded in 1959 as Information Handling Services to provide information for aerospace engineers through microfilm databases."[11]

Markit

Markit, was founded in 2003 as Mark-it Partners, a financial data provider for daily Credit default swap pricing.[12][13][14]

The company grew via joint ventures and by acquiring other companies,[15][16][17][18] merging in 2016 with IHS.
