Carrie Wong (Chinese: 黄思恬; pinyin: Huáng SīTián; born 1 January 1994) is a Singaporean actress, contracted under MediaCorp.[1] She was discovered through Mediacorp Channel U's reality television competition Hey Gorgeous.[2]
Biography
The only child of a housewife mother and retiree father who worked in a security firm, Wong was raised in a mandarin-speaking family. She studied at Evergreen Secondary School where she was a member of the volleyball and track and field teams. She later graduated in 2014 with a diploma course in hospitality and tourism management from Nanyang Polytechnic, and it was during her final year when she made it to one of the top three contestants in Hey Gorgeous in 2013.[1]
Career
2013: Hey Gorgeous
Wong was scouted at her school campus and chosen as one of the six contestants for the Preliminary Rounds of the second season of Hey Gorgeous in 2013 by the host of the programme Ben Yeo. In January 2014, having emerged as second runner-up, behind winner and fellow Nanyang Polytechnic student, Alfred Low, Wong officially signed on to MediaCorp as a full-time artiste.
In 2013, Wong, along with other Hey Gorgeous past contestants, starred in her first drama on MediaCorp Channel U, Scrum, broadcast on February 2014. Wong portrayed a disabled Sport Sciences polytechnic student.
2014: Entry into Mediacorp
Following her entry into MediaCorp as a full-time artiste in January 2014, she acted in Against the Tide and The Journey: Tumultuous Times which gained her nomination in Best Newcomer & Best Supporting Actress in Star Awards 2015.[1] She also filmed 118 and an English series, Spouse For House. For this show she was listed as one of the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artists in Star Awards 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018.
In 2015, Wong gained her first leading role in a testube episode, Love In Air and also filmed Sealed With A Kiss and Life - Fear Not that gained her next award, Social Media Award in Star Awards 2016.
In 2016, she filmed Don't Worry, Be Healthy, The Gentlemen, You Can Be An Angel 2 and 118 II and a cameo appearance in blockbuster Hero.
2017: Best Actress' Nomination
In 2017, she filmed Dream Coder and a end-of-year blockbuster My Friends From Afar, which gained her first nomination for Best Actress in Star Awards 2018.
In 2018, she is studying and graduated from acting courses in Taiwan. Despite her schedule, she made a cameo appearance in 118 Reunion and played the female leads in two toggle original series, My Agent Is An Hero and VIC. She also made a cameo appearance in Toggle series Love At Cavenagh Bridge. She back from Taiwan in June, to film her only Channel 8 production this year, You Can Be An Angel 3.
