CKNT

CKNT is a radio station that broadcasts a news/talk radio format on the frequency of 960 kHz (AM) in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

The station is branded as Sauga 960 AM.

History

On November 22, 2011, Elliot Kerr, on behalf of a corporation to be incorporated received an approval by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to operate a new English language news/talk AM radio station at Mississauga.[1] The new station would provide local news and information, weather, sports, traffic, including coverage of city council, local business issues, and community related political and social events.

A launch date was yet to be announced. The station was to sign on the air by November 22, 2013.

On September 11, 2014, the CRTC approved Elliot Kerr's application to decrease the daytime transmitter power from 2,000 to 700 watts, by decreasing the night-time transmitter power from 180 to 104 watts, and by relocating the transmitter.[2]

On August 21, 2018, the CRTC renewed CKNT's yet to be launched radio station from September 1, 2018 to August 31, 2023. [3]

On September 4, 2018, after nearly seven years after getting approval by the CRTC to operate an English-language commercial AM radio station at Mississauga, the station plans to officially sign on the air at 960 kHz on the AM band. [4]

Notes

The AM 960 frequency was originally used by a radio station out of Cambridge, Ontario, known today as CJDV-FM.
