Rachel "Bunny" Meyer[1] (born August 3, 1985)[2] is an American YouTuber and beauty vlogger who goes by the username grav3yardgirl.

YouTube channel

Based in Pearland, Texas, Meyer used to design clothes before she got into a car accident and wasn't able to sew anymore.[3] She then started her YouTube channel in December 2010, mainly made videos about her own personal paranormal experiences and trips to graveyards. Meyer was also having personal problems such as anxiety, so she used YouTube as an outlet to help herself.[1] She later transitioned her vlogs to be more centralized on subjects about fashion and make-up, as well as a series called "Does This Thing Really Work?" which tests out "As Seen on TV" products where she uses and then reviews them in a video.[4][5] Meyer refers to her followers as her "Swamp Family".[6]

As of May 2018, she has over 8.5 million subscribers and 1.5 billion video views.[1]

By mid-2018, statistics showed a significant decline in her audience, with videos getting as little as 150,000 views, in contrast to 17 million views per video for her earlier work[7][8]. Once viewed as one of the most successful creators on the platform, Meyer suddenly appeared on lists about the most boring, unsuccessful, and newly irrelevant channels on YouTube.[9]

As a result, Meyer spent considerable time and effort trying to understand why her videos might not be reaching the amount of traffic they previously did. She even took advice from fellow YouTuber, Shane Dawson, who offered to help her revive her dying channel and uncover the ways she could turn things around[10]. Dawson and Meyers filmed their interactions in a well received mini-series that documented their emotional and raw encounter[11]. Her viewers have since welcomed her attempt to make improvements, as evidenced by an upswing in her subscriptions.[12][13] As a result, viewers have supported her return to the quirky and funny personality that she was originally known for, while embracing her evolution towards a more authentic, inspirational and motivating thought leader that she seems to be growing into.[14][15]

Make-up collection

On June 6, 2016, Meyer globally released her Swamp Queen make-up collection in collaboration with Tarte Cosmetics. The collection was sold at several leading cosmetics stores, such as Macy's, Ulta and Sephora, and included an eyeshadow palette and two lipsticks. Due to overwhelming traffic, Tarte's website crashed just after the release of the products.[16]

Awards and nominations

In 2014, Meyer was nominated at the Teen Choice Awards for Choice Web Star: Fashion/Beauty, but lost to Zoe Sugg.[17] She received a second nomination in 2016, but lost to Bethany Mota.[18]
