Bournemouth Traction and Rolling Stock Maintenance Depot is a traction maintenance depot located in Bournemouth, South West England. The depot is situated on a spur of the South Western Main Line and is to the east of Branksome station.[2]

History

The depot has two main buildings. The first was built as a four-track through-road carriage shed by the Southern Railway around 1930, and converted by British Rail to an EMU shed in 1967. The second was also built as a four-track through-road shed, and opened by British Rail in 1967. This latter building was modified with a two-track extension in 1986, to accommodate the upcoming Class 442 units.[3]

In 1987, the depot had an allocation of Classes 423, 432, 438 and 492 EMUs.[4] Around the same time, locomotive classes stabled there included Classes 09, 33, 47 and 73.[2]

Allocation

As of 2016, the depot's allocation consists of South Western Railway’s Class 159 Express Sprinters,[5] Class 450 Desiros and Class 455, 456 and 458 EMUs, and soon 442 EMUs.
