Blikanasaurus (meaning "Blikana lizard") is a genus of sauropodomorph dinosaur from the late Triassic of what is now South Africa. Known from a left lower limb only, its remains were found in Lower Elliot Formation rocks near the Blikana location in what is now the Eastern Cape Province. The type specimen is housed in the South African Museum in Cape Town. The type species, Blikanasaurus cromptoni, was first described by Galton and van Heerden in 1985. The specific epithet was named in honour of Dr AW (Fuzz) Crompton, then director of the South African Museum, thereafter at Yale and Harvard. Blikanasaurus is the type genus of the family Blikanasauridae, and it has been variously classified as either a prosauropod or a basal sauropod.[1][2]
