Bhattarai (Nepali: भट्टराई) or Bhattrai is a Khas surname used by a certain subgroup belonging to Bahun and Chhetri caste of Nepal. They belong Vasishtha gotra.[1]
Etymology
Bhattarai is an adjoint surname made up of two Sanskrit titles; Bhatta and Rai. Bhatta means scholar in Sanskrit.[2] and Rai is a substitute for King.[3]
