Beau Benzschawel is an American football offensive lineman who currently plays for the Wisconsin Badgers. He is projected to go in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.[1]
High school career
Benzschawel played tight end and defensive end at Grafton High School in addition to playing basketball and baseball.[2]
After originally committing to Syracuse,[3] Benzschawel committed to Wisconsin on October 24, 2013.[4] He had other offers from Iowa State, Wyoming and Bowling Green, among others.[2]
College career
After redshirting the 2014 season, Benzschawel battled a knee injury before his redshirt freshman season.[5]
During his sophomore season, Benzschawel started every game at offensive guard.[6]
Preceding his junior season, Benzschawel was named a pre-season All American by USA Today.[6] He injured his leg early in the season against Florida Atlantic.[7] After being listed as questionable in the injury report for the following game,[8] he wound up playing against BYU.[9]
After the season, he was named a third-team All-American.[10] He projected as a mid-round pick,[10] with reports highlighting his awareness and long arms.[11] Eventually, he decided not to enter the 2018 NFL Draft[12] after consulting with the NFL Draft Advisory Board.[13]
In August 2018, Benzschawel was named a preseason second-team All-America by CBS Sports.[14] He was also named a preseason first-team All-American by USA Today[15] and the Associated Press.[16]
Personal life
Benzschawel's brother Luke plays tight end for the Badgers.[17] The brothers' father also played at UW as a nose guard.[2] Beau is an avid fisherman and is known to take his fellow Badgers offensive lineman for outings on Lake Mendota.[18]
