Bavlinsky District (Russian: Бавлинский райо́н; Tatar: Баулы районы) is an administrative[1] and municipal[3] district (raion), one of the forty-three in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. It is located in the southeast of the republic. The area of the district is 1,210.4 square kilometers (467.3 sq mi).[4] Its administrative center is the town of Bavly[2] (which is not administratively a part of the district).[8] Population: 14,161 (2010 Census);[5] 14,566 (2002 Census);[9][10] 56,709 (1989 Census).[11]

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, Bavlinsky District is one of the forty-three in the republic.[2] The town of Bavly serves as its administrative center, despite being incorporated separately as a town of republic significance[2]—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[8]

As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Bavlinsky Municipal District, with the town of republic significance of Bavly being incorporated within it as Bavly Urban Settlement.[3]
