Almetyevsky District (Russian: Альме́тьевский райо́н; Tatar: Cyrillic Әлмәт районы, Latin Əlmət rayonı) is an administrative[1] and municipal[3] district (raion), one of the forty-three in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. It is located in the southeastern central part of the republic. The area of the district is 2,503 square kilometers (966 sq mi).[4] Its administrative center is the city of Almetyevsk[2] (which is not administratively a part of the district).[12] As of the 2010 Census, the total population of the district was 51,100.[5]

History

The district was established on August 10, 1930.[8]

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, Almetyevsky District is one of the forty-three in the republic.[2] The city of Almetyevsk serves as its administrative center, despite being incorporated separately as a city of republic significance[2]—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[12]

As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Almetyevsky Municipal District, with the city of republic significance of Almetyevsk being incorporated within it as Almetyevsk Urban Settlement.[3]
