The Bahraini passport (Arabic: جواز السفر البحريني) is issued to citizens of Bahrain for international travel. They are made available through the General Directorate of Nationality, Passports & Residence. This institution, one of the earliest of its kind in the region, first issued passports in 1929.[2] It was criticized in 1996 by journalist Robert Fisk for its refusal to renew the passports of some Bahraini nationals, thus imposing an effective exile on these individuals.[3]
Visa requirements
In September 2018, Bahraini citizens had visa-free or visa on arrival access to 84 countries and territories, ranking the Bahraini passport 49th in the world according to the Passport index [4]
