Arcot N. Veeraswami
Arcot N. Veeraswami was a former minister for electricity in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.He became the treasurer of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party [1][2] and emerged as No 3 in the party after Karunanidhi and K Anbazhagan in the early eighties [3] [4].He is right hand man of Karunanidhi [5] He is The main peace- maker in the party[6].He served as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition (2001 - 2006 )[7][8] [9]. He was born in Kuppadichatham village in North Arcot district in Tamil Nadu on 21 April 1937 to Narayanasamy Naidu and Jeyammal couple.[10][11] He has finished his school education before he actively engaged in politics .He has been elected to the Tamil Nadu assembly six times. During 1989 - 1991 DMK rule he was the Minister for Food [12][13] and during 1996 - 2001 Minister for Health & Electricity [14] [15][16][17] and during 2006 - 2011 Minister for Electricity and Rural Industries [18] [19] [20] [21][22]

Politics
Veerasamy has had a slow and steady rise in Tamil Nadu politics. He worked as a clerk in the state electricity board, was handpicked by DMK founder, C N Annadurai, as a candidate for the Arcot constituency in 1967. He worked for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party and after the death of S. J. Sadiq Pasha, then treasurer of the DMK Party, he became the treasurer and emerged as No 3 in the party after Karunanidhi and K Anbazhagan in the early eighties [26] [27]. rose in the ranks of the party to be elected unanimously as the Treasurer of Dravida Munnetras Kazhagam in 1994 - 2008 [28][29].He is the member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party for a long time and has been elected to Tamil Nadu assembly six times.[30]He has participated in several agitations against oppression staged by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and courted arrest several times, the most notable one being MISA in 1976 when he was arrested and tortured for one year . He lost his hearing in one ear. [31] He was elected as Member of Legislative Assembly from Arcot constituency in the years 1967,1971,from Purasaiwalkam constituency in 1989, and from Annanagar constituency in 1996,2001 and 2006 in the General elections [32]. He also served as Member of the Legislative Council from 1977 to 1988 [33] .
He was sworn in as Minister of the Govt of Tamilnadu thrice during 1989,1996 and 2006 as Minister For Food, Minister for Health and Electricity and Minister For Electricity and Rural Industries respectively.[34] [35] [36]
