Anshu Jamsenpa is an Indian mountaineer and the second woman in the world to scale the summit of Mount Everest twice in a season (and the first to do so within 5 days).[1] It is also the fastest double ascents of the tallest crest by a woman.

This 38 year old mountaineer is from Bomdilla, headquarters of West Kameng district, Arunachal Pradesh - the state that holds most north-eastern position of India.[2] Her husband, Tsering Wange, is the president of the All Arunachal Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Association.[3] She has two daughters - Pasang Droma, and Tenzin Nyiddon.[4]

After taking the blessings of 14th Dalai Lama[5] she began her Everest climbing expedition from Guwahati on April 2, 2017. She took 38 days schedule for acclimatization at the Everest Base Camp (at 17,600 ft) and started her main journey on April 4. At 9.15 am on May 16,[1] along with 17 other climbers, she climbed up to the mountaintop and unfurled the Indian National Flag.[6]

She started her second arduous trek with Nepali climber Furi Sherpa on May 19. She continued climbing almost without any pause in hiking, till 10 pm. Again the next morning, she began climbing and took a brief break prior to summit hike, and finally reached the apex at 7.45 am, on 21 May, 2017[7].

Although the feather of double ascent had been already added in her cap in 2011, she climbed the peak twice (second and third expedition) within a time span of 10 days.[8] However, this year, she took 118 hours and 15 minutes to finish her 5th mission after 4th one. She participated in another one in 2013.[9]

For making history (the first woman and also the first mother who completed twice double ascents),first indian woman to scale the Mt.Everest five times. Government of Arunachal Pradesh has suggested her name for the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award.[10]

Anshu Jamsenpa was also one of the brand ambassadors of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Campaign) 2012-2013. Recently, she has been nominated to be the brand ambassador of North East Tourism.[11]

Anshu was conferred PhD by Arunachal University of Studies for her achievements in the field adventure sports and making the region proud. [12]
