Later he worked with Mr Balraj Puri[11] and Institute of J & K Affairs on the project “children Affected by Armed conflict in Jammu & Kashmir (detail)” funded by UNICEF.[12][13] Being a political science student Adhik's motto behind surveying in Kashmir was to understand the political scenario of Kashmir but carrying a number of queries in mind,[14] Adhik witnessed number of brutal incidents-Killing, Children whirling Orphans,[15] torture and oppression resulting as a turning point[16] for Mr. Kadam where he decided to work for Jammu and Kashmir.[17][18] Hardliners branded him an infidel and his work un-Islamic. His response was hard work and an obstinate simplicity, a bid to leave his enemies with no ammunition.[19]

A Penniless Vagabond

Adhik Kadam serves Jammu and Kashmir's children of conflict, particularly the females who lost their fathers to violence in the valley. His experience of working in the conflict areas proven his advantage to understand the conflict and dire need of peace in the region through various developmental approaches.[7] When he was 19 years old he visited a Kashmiri Pandit migrant camp in Jammu.[20] On 12 May 2002, Adhik Kadam,[21] through his Borderless World Foundation launched first project Basrea-E-Tabassum (Abode of Smiles), a home for girl-orphans in the frontier district of Kupwara (Sulkoot village) in the Kashmir Valley.[22][23] He also worked during the Kargil war for civilians.[24] From a meager number of 2 girls in 2002, today his foundation has more than 220 girls falling in the age group of 18 months to 20 years at the four centers and can support at least 1000+ girls in the community in Jammu & Kashmir state.[5][25] Having dedicated his life to service, Adhik has eschewed worldly possessions and lives, as described in a recent article in India Currents Magazine as a “Penniless Vagabond.” [26]

Adhik spent 21 years in Jammu & Kashmir. He visited Kashmir during extreme turmoil and worked for the community fearlessly. He believes that communities in the conflict need to heal by utmost love and care. He started Borderless World Foundation in 2002 with the mission "one Great Human Family"[27][28] While conducting a children-centric social-economic survey of the region, he gained a penetrating and disturbing insight into the challenges of the people living in these areas.
