Adezai (Pashto: آديزئي), alternatively spelled Addezai, is a historic village of the Peshawar District in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. The village is situated about 25 kilometres (16 mi) north of the city of Peshawar, and is the administrative centre of Adezai Union Council, which is an administrative subdivision of Peshawar Tehsil.[1]

Like Peshawar, the area contains several significant historic sites, such as the ruin on a mound, Sikh dheri. Land in the region is very fertile, and agriculture has long been the main occupation of its people. Areas like Awayy, Sandasar, Lalma, Kasa, and Khandaq are common tourist attractions.

Education

The village has a college high school, Adezai Higher Secondary School & Girl's Middle School, which was commissioned in the mid-70s and is the only institution of learning for the surrounding villages and the tribal area. The school was terribly damaged in a terrorist attack in the spring of 2011, but was reconstructed with a new design on modern lines. The village also has primary education facilities. There are two main primary schools for boys and two primary and one middle school for girls. Several public schools, however, are compensating for this. Adezai has produced some notable talents, especially in the field of health and defense forces of the country. Mirza Khel and Mughal Khel, sub-clans of Adezai, has produced a number of commissioned army officers and doctors alone.

Geography

Adezai is surrounded by Village Mattani on the West side, FR Peshawar on the South, Village Passani on the East side and its Northern Side is touched with Village Bada ber.

Demographics

All of Adezai's population are Pashtuns and belong to the Khalil Mohmand tribe. All are followers of Islam. This village is further divided into two parts called Khalizai and Ulizai.

Development

A small dam is scheduled to be constructed on the central perennial Nallah. The project could potentially change the fate of the most arid land of the village and surrounding villages and also could be helpful in upgrading the economic conditions of the local people.http://www.dawn.com/2006/09/27/local35.htm The book, Tareekh-e-Peshawar (History of Peshawar) compiled and finalized in 1874 by Munshi Gopal Das, extra assistant settlement commissioner Punjab on the orders of his Settlement Commissioner (A.G. Hastings) of Punjab, is a landmark work. According to this book in Pashtu Language, Ade means Mother and Zai means Place. The village of Adezai was inhabited by an old woman with her three sons, Khalil, Wali, and Habib. Later on, the village was subdivided among the three, with the name of Khali Zai, Wali Zai, and Habib Zai. The village has suffered immensely from the recent terrorist activities.
