The 1968 Sugar Bowl featured the fifth-ranked Wyoming Cowboys and the unranked LSU Tigers. Wyoming was the only undefeated team in the nation among major schools.[1]
Wyoming scored first in the second quarter, on a one-yard touchdown run from Jim Kiick, as Wyoming took a 7–0 lead. Jerry DePoyster added field goals of 24 and 49 yards as Wyoming extended its lead to 13–0 at halftime. In the third quarter, LSU running back Glenn Smith scored on a one-yard touchdown run, making the score 13–7. In the fourth quarter, LSU quarterback Nelson Stokley completed touchdown passes of eight and 14 yards to end Tommy Morel as LSU rallied for a 20–13 win. Glenn Smith was named the game's most valuable player.
