From the 13th century, when the Kingdom of Granada still was the only muslim territory in the Iberian Peninsula, Íllar would form a part, together with other 10 localities, of Marchena’s taha, being this the traditional fief of the al-Nayar family.[1]

Modern Age

The Christian reconquest came after the surrender of Baza and the capitulations of Almería, in 1489. Marchena's former taha was granted as it rewarded Gutierre de Cárdenas y Chacón by the Catholic Kings in 1494, since it was a custom for having taken part in the Reconquest. In the 16th century, it took place the revolt and later the expulsion of the muslims. After it, the locality remained uninhabited, there being generated a crisis that would become stable in the XVIIth and XVIIIth century.[1]

Contemporary Age

The 19th century appears with the liberalism and the abolition of the dominions in 1835. Íllar, as the rest of localities of Marchena's former taha is constituted in municipality. In addition, this century is characterized by a demographic increase thanks to the summit of the agriculture, propitiated principally by culture of Ohanes's grape. This age of prosperity was translated in several constructions of own style of the middle class in the province. Also the fountain, the washer in 1871, the Summer-house and the headquarters of the Townhall were constructed in historicist style. The economic summit was kept until the 30s of the 20th century, when it was interrupted as a consequence of a great drought and social problems that connected with the Civil war and a hard postwar period characterized by the high index of emigration.
