- (nom 1) Du vieux norrois mý, du proto-germanique *mugjon, lui-même du proto-indo-européen *mu (« mouche »). Apparenté à l’anglo-saxon mycg ou mycge (d’où le moyen anglais mygga, anglais midge), au vieux haut-allemand mucka (allemand Mücke), au letton muša, à l’albanais mizë, au russe муха múxa, au grec ancien μυῖα muïa, à l’ukrainien муха múxa, au bulgare муха múxa, au bas-sorabe mucha, au polonais mucha, au slovaque mucha et au latin musca (« mouche »). À comparer avec le néerlandais mug.
