Etymology

Borrowed from either Bactrian Βοδδο (Boddo), Βουδο (Boudo, “Buddha”) or Sogdian [script needed] (bwt /but/, “Buddha”), ultimately from Sanskrit बुद्ध (buddha). Compare Manichaean Middle Persian 𐫁𐫇𐫤‎ (bwt /but/).
