Probably from Middle Chinese compound 歷史家 (lek sriX kæ, literally “pass by + scribe + household”). Compare modern Min Nan reading le̍k-sú-ka.
Usage notes
Refers both to a person who studies history academically, and to a person who is knowledgeable about history.
