  1. a foreign loanword transliterated into Japanese, usually written in katakana
    「ググる」とは外来語 (がいらいご)だ。
    “Guguru” to wa gairaigo da.
    "To google" is a foreign loanword.

Usage notes

Although this technically refers to a loanword from anywhere, it usually refers to loanwords from the West.
