ドル (doru): evolution of the dollar symbol for both the United States and (now obsolete) Spanish dollar.
From Dutch dollar. Originally transcribed phonetically into Japanese as ドルラル (doruraru), then shortened during the Meiji period to just ドル (doru).[3][1]
