  4. happens, or is done with regret afterwards
    あなたは笑 (わら)われてしまうでしょう。
    Anata wa warawareteshimau deshō.
    You will be laughed at (and you won't like it).

Usage notes
  • Appended to the conjunctive (-te form) of a verb.
  • てしまう and でしまう can be contracted to ちゃう and ぢゃう. These two forms conjugate like godan verbs and are often used in casual speech.
    忘 (わす)れちゃった！ ― wasurechatta! ― I forgot!
  • There are also ちまう and ぢまう, which sound old-fashioned.
