From Old Khmer pantāla, pānatāla (“to scatter, to spread; to enlarge, to expand; to develop; to bring about, to cause, to engender, to produce; etc”). Cognate with Modern Khmer បណ្ដាល (bɑndaal).

1. (especially by supernatural power or as an emotional effect) to bring about; to cause; to create; to give rise (to); to engender; to make; to produce.
