From Old Khmer thvāya, tâvāya, tvāy, thvāy, thvai (to make an offering, present, or make a gift (to gods, royalty, etc)); or from Old Mon twāy (to present (to a king)). Cognate with Modern Khmer ថ្វាយ (thvaay). Extended as Thai ดงวาย, ตังวาย.
