From Sanskrit ঘৰ্ম (gharma, heat), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gʰarmá-, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰor-mós (warmth, heat). Cognate with Sylheti ꠊꠣꠝ (gam), Marathi घाम (ghām), Konkani घाम (ghām) and Romani kham (sun). Doublet of গৰম (gorom).
