From Sanskrit আক্ষত (ākṣata, unhurt). Cognate with Bengali খই (khôi), Kumaoni आँँखत (rice soaked in water), Gujarati આખું (ākhũ, whole, uncastrated), આખી (ākhī, ceremony of carrying rice or corn in the hand round a person to remove the effects of the evil eye), Marathi आखा (ākhā, whole, undivided), Konkani आखो (complete).
