Cognate with Avestan 𐬠𐬀𐬊𐬜𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬌 (baoδaiti), Ancient Greek πεύθομαι (peúthomai), πυνθάνομαι (punthánomai), Old Church Slavonic блюсти (bljusti), Old English bēodan (whence English bid).
