From Akkadian 𒀠𒆷𒀭 (ʾallānu, alyānu, oak; acorn), Sumerian 𒄑𒀠𒆷𒈝 (allanum, oak; acorn, acorn-shaped). Also Hebrew אֵלֹון (elōn, great tree), אַלּוֹן (allōn, great tree; oak), Jewish Aramaic אִילָנָא (ʾīlānā).
